ICCO Business Excellence Awards - May 13

On May 13 at the Liberty Grand, more than 600 people celebrated business excellence in the Italian-Canadian community at the 2010 Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario Business Excellence Awards (ICCO BEA), sponsored by Scotiabank.

The 2010 Business Excellence Award recipients were:

ICCO Business Excellence Award: Ms. Connie Clerici, Closing the Gap Healthcare Group
PricewaterhouseCoopers ICCO Next Generation Award: Mr. Pat DiCapo, PowerOne Capital Markets Limited
KPMG ICCO Community Building Award: Ms. Rossana Di Zio Magnotta, Magnotta Winery Corporation
Premio Ambasciata Italiana ICCO Arte, Scienza e Cultura: Ms. Gianna Patriarca, Poet
Scotiabank ICCO Environmental Leadership Award: Mr. Gino Di Rezze, Groundheat International

Before the gala awards ceremony began, guests were treated to cocktail receptions and hors d’oeuvres, lively music provided by Soprano Sara Papini, and the evening was emceed by two members of ICCO Forward (New division of the Chamber designed for people under 40) Stephanie Angelone and Nicolas J. Severino.

The evening was highlighted by the presence of his Worship Sergio Chiamparino, Mayor of Torino. Although this was not Mayor Chiamparino first visit to Canada, he was eager to speak about his City and to promote 2011’s Italia CentoCinquanta, marking 150 years since the 1861 creation of the Kingdom of Italy, the first nation uniting the peninsula. Torino was the original capital, of the unified Italy and many of the country’s celebratory events will be held there from March to November, 2011.

Mayor Chiamparino also presented longtime Toronto Star journalist Christopher Hume with the City of Torino Award, in recognition of the many stories Hume has written about Torino, commenting on that city’s progress over the past decade.

With such guests and five categories being represented by a group of five truly inspiring and influential winners, it is no surprise that the 8th annual Business Excellence Awards was a most successful endeavor.
