Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario - Pillitteri Estates Winery is proud to announce that it was awarded its third consecutive Gold Medal at the prestigious Syrah du Monde Competition held in the Northern Rhone Valley, France, May 2009, showcasing the best Syrah/Shiraz of the world. 
  
Pillitteri Estates Winery was the only Canadian winery to receive a medal, which was awarded to the 2007 Shiraz Icewine.  This is the third consecutive Gold Medal awarded to Pillitteri Estates Winery for our Shiraz Icewines, and our third consecutive year placing in the top ten.
  
Honours go to our Winemaster Marc Bradshaw.  This is a tremendous accomplishment, as Pillitteri Estates Winery is the only Canadian winery to have placed in the top ten, and capture gold since the competition began in 2007.  "Getting a hat trick of gold medals as well as top 10s for the Syrah du Monde competition is absolutely mind-blowing.  I'm stoked that my Icewine produced from the Shiraz varietal is as esteemed and brilliant as traditional Shiraz/Syrah wines from well renowned regions and wineries."
  
The Syrah du Monde® International Wine Competition is organized by Forum Œnologie.  Over the course of two days, international experts tasted 397 Syrah/Shiraz wines from 27 countries around the world.  The top ten ranking had a strong international diversity, among which the world's ten best Syrah/Shiraz wines came from South Africa, Australia, Chile, France, Switzerland, USA, Italy and CANADA.  This came as no surprise to the competition organizers as the grape variety is seeing rapid growth globally.  Of the 397 wines entered 132 were awarded medals, 35 being Gold and the other 97 Silver.
  
The 2007 Shiraz Icewine combines the elegance and intensity of this rich varietal with the sumptuousness and grandeur of Icewine. Harvested at 39° Brix, the jovial, ruby coloured wine has 225 g/L residual sugar, with intriguing candied cherry, black forest cake with an underlying note of spice plus balanced acidity.
  
This award came just as Pillitteri also received domestic acclaim at Selections Mondiales Des Vins in Quebec, the only OIV sanctioned competition in Canada.  Pillitteri received Gold for both the 2007 Chardonnay Icewine and the 2007 Vidal Icewine and Silver for the 2007 Sticky Beak Icewine.
  
Pillitteri Estates Winery is a family run and operated business founded in 1993 and is situated on 53 acres of vineyards in Niagara-on-the-Lake.  Since its short inception the winery has experienced tremendous growth and has established itself as a leader in the industry.  It currently exports to 29 countries and is the largest estate producer of Icewine in the world.  Pillitteri has won over 400 international and domestic awards, reflecting the winery's commitment to produce premium VQA wines.
